In this project we reopened a case that was held in 1944 in a Supreme Court. This case was about a man named Fred Korematsu. Korematsu was a second generation Nisei living in the United States making him an American Citizen. When Executive Order 34 and 9066 came out saying that the Japanese had to leave their homes and go live in internment camps, Korematsu refused.  He got plastic surgery to look more american and went into hiding. Korematsu believed that these orders were against his constitutional rights, which is why he was taken to the Supreme court to try his case.

For this project we all split up into teams. the teams were Defense lawyers, Prosecution lawyers, Judges, defense witnesses, prosecution witnesses, and a bailiff. With these groups we re-opened the original case against Korematsu and did a mock trial. We each had to come up with evidence and examinations of our witnesses. For this project i did the Opening Statement and i direct examined a witness named Francis Biddle. the trial was really hard work but very fun.

Please feel free to read my Opening Statement and Direct Examination Questions!
